Here is what she has to say...
My story with SI begins with a high intensity ski crash. I went for a massive tumble on an open slope in December of 2022. That resulted in a concussion, a boot top fracture of my left leg along with multiple serious strains. As a full time professional ski instructor, I went back to skiing advanced terrain with clients at Jackson Hole within 10 days of the accident. Not the wisest choice, but a common necessity for career snowsport instructors.
Meanwhile, I kept trying to rebuild strength and ease the pain of the injuries using just about everything: PT, ART, dry needling, chiropractic and massage. These modalities had worked wonders for me in the past! But nothing was working, and in fact, I felt like my body was about to implode. My legs worked about as well as a car with no shock absorbers. My skin was wrapping my body so tightly it felt like I was vacuum sealed. I even told my chiropractor, "it's like my head is on too tight." The pain was unbearable and NSAIDS became a daily habit. I hurt and my professional career was suffering.
When I asked a colleague for local references, they mentioned a practitioner that helped them quite a bit. They warned me it was a little pricey and a bit different because it required 10 sessions. It was called Rolf Structural Integration.
Desperate, I took the bait and called the practitioner. I got started right away and the first session provided an eye-opening amount of relief. By the 3rd session, my body was responding so well to the work and my pain reduction was so pronounced that I was extremely curious about becoming a practitioner myself!
And that's exactly what I did! My practitioner pointed me in the right direction and even provided me with some books to read so I could learn more about Structural Integration and fascia. I was very lucky to find classes being taught by Nilce Silveira, David Davis and Buddy Frank within the next 2 years. They are master practitioners that are possessed by a love and devotion to the purity of the Rolf Method created by Dr Ida P Rolf. The education was inspiring.
My life is completely changed by both receiving and giving this work. It has been a physical revolution. At the same time, I have undergone an internal journey that has strengthened me mentally and emotionally in amazing ways. I still plan to ski and run rivers, but not so much as a job. Structural Integration is something I want to share with everyone I meet. And I am very lucky that it is a sustainable career option!
